Denon AVR-3806 & OPPO

I just installed my new Denon AVR-3806, connected my Oppo DVD to it via DVI/HDMI, and connected the Denon HDMI out to my Philips 30PW8402/37 via HDMI. There is no output of the DVD signal to the TV. The Denon outputs all other signals via HDMI to the TV (i.e. TiVo), just not the DVD.

The manual states that both the player and the monitor must support HDCP. The Oppo site alludes to HDCP compliance (http://www.oppodigital.com/opdv971h_FAQ.htm#A1), but does not state specifically that it is. The TV says nothing about it either way.

Also, direct connection of the Oppo to the TV is fine. So why is the Denon not passing the signal? Is this a setup problem (I've checked everything I can think of, but maybe I missed something), or is the a lack of HDCP compliance on one or more compoenents?

Did you make sure both the display and the receiver were powered on before powering up the Oppo?

Yes, both were powered up prior. The HDMI setup panel on the Denon HDMI In Assign setup panel reports "no signal" from the HDMI input.

I've tried both inputs with this player, but neither respond. However, I don't have another HDMI device to connect, so it is possible that the inputs are both defective, although unlikely.

Test all cables in the line

Might be an issue with the cables. Did you test cable from receiver to TV. May be one of the cables is busted. Try switching out the cables to isolate the defective one.

Keep us updated. I'm thinking of either the yammy 2600 or 3806. Whatever one sound advice gets in stock first is what I'll be trying.

I checked both of the cables, and they look to be good. In fact, the Denon even outputs it's own signal, as well as the analog signals onto the HDMI.

Also, in a side note: In direct contradiction with Denon's own literature, the AVR-3806 DOES convert analog to HDMI (or at least it converts S-Video and Component to HDMI, I can't confirm composite).

And it sounds phenomenal so far...

According to a review by secrets of home theater, the DVI output on the Oppo is not HDCP compatible. Sounds like the problem is with the Denon not processing the non HDCP signal.

Yah. A more thorough search of the manual made it pretty clear the Denon doesn't like non-HDCP DVD input, or at least not over HDMI. Which means now I have a great excuse to move up to the 1920... and a new TV. I need a better job.

have you set the DVD input signal on your receiver?? Have you set the source of the receiver to DVD? Have you set your receiver or DVD player to pure direct? Make sure you check all your settings and connections,
