Hello all,

Please help me understand how this whole "zone 2" thing works. I'm looking to install two in ceiling speakers in my kitchen so we can listen to what is playing in the living room.

- If we are watching tv, I want it to play in the living room and kitchen simultaneously.

- If we are listening to a cd, I want it to play in the living room and kitchen simultaneously,

- If we are watching a dvd, I want it to play in the living room and kitchen simultaneously

- etc..., etc.....

I looked through the manual, but came away with more questions than answers. Can someone explain to me - in layman's terms - how to make this work?

Thanks!!!

You can easily do what you are trying to do or you can even listen to something completely different in each room.

Just hook a secondary analog cable to each device you want to use and set the zone 2 up in the AVR. I will attach an easier to read manual in a second.

Thanks ParadigmDawg!!

The "surround back" speaker hook-ups are the key to what I am trying to do, and you have to connect your inputs with additional analog cable. Got that.

I have a few more questions now...

- The PS3 is hooked up via HDMI. This is our source for playing DVD's as well as CD's. If I hook it up with an additional analog cable, will it know to send signal to the Denon through both cables simultaneously, or will it default to the HDMI?

- The same question applies to the HD/DVR cable box. It is currently hooked up with component video / optical audio.

We have an LCD in the kitchen that is hooked to an HD cable box. (non-DVR) Currently, the sound from the living room will sync with the picture on the LCD in the kitchen. (You just can't hear it very well) Ultimately, what I am trying to accomplish is to have the audio generated by the Denon in the living room mesh with the LCD picture in the kitchen. Will the addition of analog cables cause me to have issues with mismatch of voice and screen?

I know just enough about this stuff to make me dangerous!!!:D

I appreciate your help.

You are out of luck on the PS3. You can't run HDMI and analog at the same time. This is a frustrating thing for me too as I used to use the PS3 as my primary source of music. I now use a music server built into my AVR.

I have seen it go both ways with cable boxes. My current one lets me run digital and analog at the same time.

You shouldn't see a mismatch of voice.
