Denon AVR-3805 or Rotel 1056

Deciding between these two receivers is very difficult because of the following two conflicting opinions:

1, The Denon 3805 is the receiver you will use for a long time to come. It has 120 W per channel in surround mode, 6.1, even 7.1 surround, and all the features you could possibly need or ecpect to get from a $1,200 receiver.

2, The Rotel 1056 admittedly only offers 75 W per channel in 5.1 surround mode, but the quality of the audio you get in those 75 watts is superior to anything else at the price of $1,300. Who needs a ton of features if you can get superior quality at lower wattage.

At the moment I am torn between which receiver of these two to buy. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

PS: I have looke at the Yamaha 2400 as well, but I haven't listened to it. Is it be comparable to any of these two receivers?

The 2400 is comparable in that it is great quality for the price. By buying it, you could save money to put towards an external amp. If this is not an option, go with one of the other two. I personally would get the Rotel because of its sound quality. My main concern is quality of audio. I don't care about the gadgets and gizmos and options. If it has enough, get it.

I'd have to say Rotel. Based upon your p.s. that you hadnt listened to the Yamaha, I'm assuming that you have heard both the Denon and the Rotel. No preference from what you hear? I'm putting a system together around the 1067 and really prefer their sound after listening to comparable Denon and Yamaha receivers. If you decide later that you dont have enough power with the Rotel your dealer might let you sell it back and upgrade, or Rotel has amps in the $400 range...

What are you going to be running with the your new amp?

The Denon is fine, but given a choice on pure sonics alone, I'd go for the Rotel. This is essentially a very subjective choice and I should adivice you to take the time to audition both using the preferred speakers you have in mind, though it's also possible that either brand can work best on different speaker brands. Offhand, I know the Rotel sounds excellent with B&W speakers, but I am sure they're work just fine in Monitor Audios and others as well.
