Denon AVR-3805 intermittently shuts off?

Ever since purchasing my 3805 receiver it will intermittently shut off for no reason with the power button flashing red? It happens when listening to dvd's and cd's. I haven't tried other sources because it is very intermittent and cd's/dvd's are my main sources so that's when I notice it. I've moved rca cords and checked speaker cables (all banana plugs). It seems to happen within the first 10 minutes of power it up. Sometimes it will shut off twice and then it is fine for the duration of that power up cycle. Has anyone heard of this? I am currently awaiting a response from Denon but am curious if anyone has encountered this?

It's going into protect mode. My guess is it's a speaker wire. Are all the wires terminated at the speakers with banana plugs? Are there any stray ends at the plugs?

Try disconnecting all the speaker wires except the front. If no shutdown, disconnect those, try the center. Disconnect that, then try the rear surrounds. That may help locating the source - assuming it's a speaker wire.

My 3805 goes into protect mode too, but in one specific place: War of the Worlds dvd at the 1h 8m 10s mark. Does it everytime unless I turn the volume way down or set all speakers to small.

I've watched WOTW a few times at reference levels without the 3805 shutting down, in fact I've never had my 3805 shutdown, however I have my mains set to small with the crossover set at 80Hz and let the DD15 do everything below that.

anaudiophile, what speakers are you running? Are they efficient or a power hungry 4ohm/83db? How have you setup your Bass Management? How hard are you pushing the amp? All this can contribute to running an amp in protection mode.

If your having this problem while using efficient speakers at reasonable levels then you may have a bad connection somewhere along the lines or a faulty unit.

Hopefully Its just a bad connection or so, as Buckeyefan 1 suggested
cheers:)

If I set the M60ti's to small I can play the movie as loud as I want ( receiver set to -5) if I set the M60ti's to large I have to back them all the way down to -20 to get through the scene. but I'm being rude by hijacking someone else's thread. so not another word from me. ;)

3805 Shutdown

I had my 3805 shutdown on me also during a particularly loud playback of 'Bolero' via a SACD mutil-channel input. I fiddled around with the speaker wire connections (all banana plugs) and haven't had a repeat (Axiom M80's). Unfortunately, I can't remember all the troubleshooting I did (speaker setup, etc.).
