Denon AVR 3300 optical issues

Hi,

Guess I had to bite the dust and ask some questions:eek:

I have a Denon 3300, I just got a Panasonic 46" G10 plasma and instead of having a coaxial audio from the Blu-ray, RCA from the Dish box, I thought I would use the optical out form the TV to get digital sound from both???

I finally got the optical to work for the Dish TV signal, but it seems the optical inputs are assigned, like the TV is optical 3, the DVD seems to want optical 1.

But, if I have HDMI in from the Satellite box, HDMI in from the Blu-ray in to the TV, shouldn't the optical out cover both?

AND the remote for the 3300 drives me NUTS, always has. I can't seem to get to the system set-up to change the optical assignments...

How do I get the system set-up to come up, I have it so it does display with the monitor out, but it won't let me get to the main system menu. It displays other things though.

Help!!!!

thank you

Adria

I'm not sure about your Tv in particular, but some only output the left and right channels through the optical out. If you have a surround system, you wouldn't be getting the full effect. For the blu-ray player, you should have its optical out or coaxial out going straight into the denon (unless you have a blu-ray player with multi channel analog output). I wouldn't worry to much about the names the receiver assigns to each input. I have the same receiver, but I use a logitech harmony remote. I bought it out of necessity but you may find it useful.

So, pressing the System Setup button doesn't do anything? Are you sure the left slide switch is set to Audio? The manual and tech notes are in this link and it shows that the optical inputs you mentioned are the defaults.

Thanks, sorry I didn't get back to everyone, I must not have the auto email set up. Anyway, it does work, I just keep it on TV/DBS and it has the optical for TV and DVD. Now to get rid of the dread 3300 hiss and buzz. I fear I'll just need to replace it, it is 10 years old... But I do hear it's a common problem.

Onkyo 706?
