Denon AVR-2807 vs Yamaha RX-V1700

I am currently deciding between these two sub-$1000 AVR's (can find both online for less than a grand) and would appreciate some help as to which one forum members recommend. Or, if there is another sub-$1000 AVR I should consider, recommendations are welcome.

Thanks.

Both fine receivers. The Denon manual and user interface are pretty poor. If this is your fist step into AV receivers, I suggest going with the Yamaha or an Onkyo. Have you purchased or do you own speakers already? That could impact the receiver choice.

Haven't chosen speakers - yet. Here is my situation. I just built a house and basically wired the whole place for sound, including the outside (this is separate from a media room in the basement which will have its own self contained system).

This receiver is to control everything but the media room. The wiring goes as follows:

1. family room with plasma, central room to house, open to kitchen/bfast room
2. Dining room
3. Office
4. Living Room
5. kids play room - with hung LCD TV and speaker wires to allow room to run independent from family room (i guess what's called an a/b switch)
6. Master Bed room - with hung LCD and set up similar to kids playroom
7. master bath, with hung LCD
8. Outdoors

To start, I just wanted to get the family room up and running, looking to hook Cablevision HD Dvr and DVD up.

Any help appreciated.

Under $ 1,000 A/V reciever

I'm in about same boat, I am leaning toward Axiom M60's as my main speakers for a while, and then get a sub for the Home Theater. Can't seem to decide what reciever to get, narrowed down between Denon, Pioneer Elite and Yamaha brands. Is HDMI connectivity all it is cracked up to be? Do I really need it? I do have 1080P TV.

You can't go wrong with any of the ones mentioned. I have a Denon and will be hard pressed to switch to another brand anytime soon. As long as they all have the features you want go with the best price.

Personally I wouldn't buy an AVR without HDMI switching and my next upgrade will have v1.3. The ability to switch HDMI sources with the press of a button is a convient and useful feature especially if you have others in the house what will be using your system. There will be no loss in picture quality.

Thanks for the input. After another week of shopping and listening, I'm now leaning toward the Marantz line starting with the 5001 and wanting the 7001. They both have HDMI connectivity. Also, I really like the Paradigm line after listening. The monitor 9/s seem like a nice alternative to the axioms.
