You said you got sound, but not what kind of sound..........stereo? surround? It sounds like something in the setup isn't quite right.
Most dvd players ship from factory with dts turned off. Go into your dvd's setup menus and enable dts or digital output. It should be set to stream...........not pcm.
You may also have to go into the receiver's setup menus and assign the dvd audio input to digital coax or optical, depending on the one you are using. Set your receiver on Digital Auto, and when you watch a movie, it will automatically go to the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. If there is a DTS soundtrack, you'll have to choose the dts track (in the movie's audio setup or Languages menu).
6 channel audio cable for SACD? Do you mean you're using 6 seperate analog rca cables, for SACD? If not, that's what you NEED to be using, from the 6 analog outputs on back of dvd player, to the 6 analog (5.1) inputs, on back of the receiver. You may also have to go into your dvd player's setup menus and set the sacd output to Multi-Channel, instead of stereo.
Also, when listening to sacds, on a Denon, you use the EXT.IN (Multi-channel) mode, instead of the dvd mode. If you use the dvd mode, you'll just be hearing the DD or DTS tracks through the digital connection, and not the High Resolution 5.1 surround tracks, of your sacd.
Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress............
BTW.......
You'll need to set the volume for each speaker too. Without an SPL meter and HT set up disc, you'll need to do it by ear. This is done in the receiver's setup menus, under the "Levels" heading.
