Denon AVR-1707 vs. Yamaha RX-V659

Lowest prices I found for these were $330 for the Denon and $300 (on ebay) for the Yamaha.

These receivers seem to be comparable.

Has anyone here used both? If so, which one would you recommend? Which one has a better remote and more intuitive controls?

I intend to hook-up a satellite receiver (for listining to classical music stations), CD/DVD player, and bookshelf/sub speakers (still to be determined) to the receiver, and would like to easily optimize sound quality.

Thanks much.

Since you don't mind e-bay type stuff, you'll probably get the most value out of this one in that price range:

the only shortfall is that is does not do HDMI.

Oherwise, either of your two options would work really well. I have had both Denon and Yamaha, and the only issue I've noticed is that the Yamahas, regardless of model, put out a lot of heat. If you have an open rack, that's no problem. If you're putting it in a cabinet, you might want to look harder at the Denon.

but do check if the 1707 has pre-outs. pre-outs will give you a chance to upgrade by buying external amps in the future.

edit: I checked, the 1707 has no pre-outs
