Denon AVR-1705 not detecting Dolby Digital

I just set up my third Denon product and have a question.

My new receiver, the Denon AVR-1705, is not switching automatically to Dolby Digital when a Digital signal is being sent. My cable provider (Time Warner) sends a digital signal with most of their HDTV broadcasts.

I am using the Coaxial connection to a DVR. My other Denon receiver (AVR-2801) will automatically switch to Dolby Digital when tuned to the same channel / program.

I am using Bose Accoustimass speakers on the AVR-1705 which has a passive sub-woofer. The passive subwoofer is powered by running all speakers to it (LF,C,RF,LR,RR) and then the speaker wire exit the subwoofer and run to the appropriate speaker (LF,C,RF,LR,RR). I wonder if this setup is causing the AVR-1705 to not switch automatically to Dolby Digital. I do have the subwoofer switched ON through the system setup on the receiver, but there is no subwoofer plugged into the Subwoofer connector on the back of the receiver.

Any ideas why the receiver won't plan Dolby Digial?

Thanks

Figured it out

The HDMI connection to my TV was forcing all audio outputs to be 2 channel.

The Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR sets all audio output based on what the HDMI senses. Since I had the HDMI going directly to the TV, and not through an AVR, it was converting all audio to 2 channel.

I replaced the HDMI connection to the TV with component video and now the digital audio output works (both the coax and optical)! I'm letting the AVR-1705 do the switching on the cmoponent video. Works out for the best. Easier for my wife to operate between the DVR and DVD.

Hope this helps someone else.
