I'm stuck and I'm sure you get these threads all of the time, but I don't know which of these two receivers to get to consider more. The 1610 will be about $20 less than the Ht-rc160.

Thanks in advance.

Both are good brands. Here are my thoughts:

-The Onkyo has upscaling whereas the Denon has upconversion which isn't a big deal to me as the display will do it anyways.

-The Onkyo uses Audyssey 2EQ and the Denon uses Audyssey MultEQ which is better.

-The Onkyo is 7.1 whereas the Denon is 5.1.

-Denon is known for reliability and being pretty bug free.

-The Onkyo is much easier to setup than the Denon.

The RC160 upscales (to 1080i) and upconverts analog to digital (HDMI) - not that this is important as most displays are capable of doing this as well.
The Denon upconverts analog to 480P (HDMI) - it has 3 HDMI ports vs 5 for the RC160.

Upconverting and upscaling are two different things.
Upconverting does just that - converts analog signals such as s-video composite and component to digital (HDMI).

Upscaling renders a low grade video signal such as 480i up to 1080i/p. Any flat panel display made today does this also so no big deal. It has to in order to display in its native resolution.

There is no magic involved and it doesn't make for a better picture - which disappoints a lot of buyers - it just creates a resolution the display can use.
