I have a Denon avr-689 and can't get the am/fm tuner working, I have followed the few steps in the manual, what am I overlooking, didn't think it should be difficult getting this working.

What are you using to an antenna, and how far are you away from transmitters, and what is in between you and the transmitters?

I am only using the FM indoor antenna that came with the unit, which is set up in the family room, heaps of windows on a busy suburban street.

A couples of other thoughts: Is it AM only and is it worse at night? AM stations cut power at night. Can youreceive FM ?

Can you receive AM/FM on a radio in the same area ? ..especailly one with long range reception such as CCRadio- SW http://www.ccrane.com/radios/shortwave-radios/ccradio-sw.aspx

As alluded and mentioned by TLS and jonathan walker ..you might need a better antenna to receive radio signals. I know from an AM standpoint the Terk AM-1000 AM Advantage antenan willsignificnatly improve reception.

Good Luck and let us know,

What sort of reception do you get on your car radio at that location?

Do you can any sound at all from the radio section? If not you have to consider the possibility that the radio section of that unit is non functional and needs to be returned.

IIRC, I wasn't able to get the tuner on mine to do anything prior to scanning for stations. Have you programmed the presets in the setup menu yet? If so, what happened? Can you be more specific with what you have tried and the results?

Is it making any weird noises or just not tuning into the stations? If you set it for manual tuning and go to a station that you know, what happens?

Is the connector on the antenna exactly the same as what the Denon needs? It should take a regular F connector.

If you can't get anything at all, turn the muting off If that doesn't get it, go to pg 49 of the manual and continue to read about improper operation. You may need to reset the microprocessor- "Step 1- Turn off power using the Power button (not the standby). Step 2- Press Power while simultaneously pressing the buttons for Input Mode and Speakers. Step 3- Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the Input Mode and Speakers buttons."
