I bought the Denon AVR-987 as a CC Open Box buy for $500. I'm pretty sure its the same as the 2807 with a different (lesser) remote. Sweet deal. Anyway I biamped my Klipsch Synergy F-3s using the Surround Back speaker terminals and setting Power Amp assign to Front A. Sounds wonderful, detail on the high end isn't covered up by the bass anymore and the bass is deeper (no sub BTW, no need in my 11x11 room and I mostly listen to music). I was curious about a few things though:
A) I know I hear the difference in sound I just described but is that typical? Is the receiver's amp actually delivering twice the power by biamping it or is it just a small increase? What is the Denon unit actually doing when it is biamped in this way?
B) What would happen if I used Front B to "biamp" instead of surround back? On my Sony 4ES doing that limits the listener to two channel stereo. Would it be biamping or just dividing the power? I don't plan to change it but I'm curious.
C) Is there any way I can get more juice by including the Sony 4ES in some fashion? I definitely want to continue to use the Denon preamp as it has more features than the Sony but if there is an easy way to get better sound utilizing the Sony I'm all ears (sorry for the incidental pun). The Denon has a preout and the Sony has multichannel line in jacks. I only have the two speakers right now though with no plans to add more but it could happen in the future.
Note: I can sell the 4ES for $400 (payment plan, may take months to receive cash but not a big deal for me)
Any feedback is appreciated.
