Denon 7200WA bi-amp through pre-outs

Over the past few years I've been slowly building a nice home theater. First off I want to say thanks to all the people on this site from other threads I've read hours on end. That being said I'm stumped on something and looking for help.

I finally added an amp(Marantz MM8077) to my fronts(rti a9) center and surround. It sounds night and day better now, I've really been missing out these years. I know it's technically not a true bi-amp since I'm letting the speakers do the crossover, however I took off the binder connecting the highs and lows to my a9 and want to run two channels per speaker to double the power. You have this setting in the Denon Amp assign and can choose which pre-out you use for the "bi-amp". When I choose this and hook it up it provides no power to the lows (or the bi-amp wire going into the pre-out). It's almost like it specifically disables it. It worked when I as them bi-wired to the assignable speaker posts. Anyone have this setup or know of a solution? Right now I have a y-splitter going from the amp to the single front pre-out to double the power but this really doesn't give me what I'm looking for. Maybe this is not possible with this AVR...?

Thanks!

You haven't mentioned your speakers. IMHO passive bi amping very rarely has benefit. If your speakers are of the very rare that has a benefit, it's better to add like amps for the biamping, however your AVR has huge power.

Also to double output you need at least a 350wpc to get a noticeable difference from your AVR, and as for volume, it's only going to be +/-3db difference

Thanks for the reply. They are Polk RTi a9, CSi A6 center and FXi A6 surrounds. I understand it doesn't make a huge improvement, and I'm doing this for the extra power to the speakers. Even if I added a second amp, my issue is the Denon setup with the pre-outs and the apparent ability to bi-amp with it.

If your clipping or fell you need more power, just get a bigger amp and forgo biamping. The crossover is still going to be the divide with those speakers. If you want more dynamics , add a good sub; which will have more impact than a larger amp

Seems you misunderstand bi-amping as you are doing it, try this article http://www.audioholics.com/frequent-questions/the-difference-between-biamping-vs-biwiring. The extra "power" to the speaker is neglible the way you're going about it. Unless actively bi-amping speakers I'd not bother myself. YMMV and all that but its mostly marketing as to what avr and speaker manufacturers offer for passive bi-amping....

Nice Receiver.

All I will say is, don't passive bi-amp like that.

Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should. :D

You're just making things more complex and possibly stressing out your awesome receiver.
