Denon 5803 vs. Onkyo TX-NR1000

I was an early adopter of AC-3 technology way back in '95 and purchased a Pioneer VSX DS3 AV receiver. It cannot play the latest software in 5.1 so I am researching the purchase of a new AV receiver. The above two models are really expensive, but I am concerned at ensuring that the new receiver is 'future proof' for a couple of years. Any suggestions, comments would be welcome.

Never owned either one of those monsters but if you want the latest features and are willing to spend that kind of $$...... why not step down to a new 4806-3805 or a lesser powered one to get "those" features? Enjoy the hunt.
