Denon 5803 FM tuner problems

I've owned the Denon 5803 for probably 15 years and have never had a problem but recently I noticed my FM stations not coming in so I replaced the antenna which is outside due to my location. I also tried resetting the microprocessor and that didn't work either. I can set stations manually and most of them come in great but in manual mode its in analog and not stereo. Does anyone have idea of what could be wrong ???

Thanks

Do you see more trees or tall buildings between your house and the broadcast towers? Have they added towers?

Any trees that have grown taller in the time you have had this receiver will affect the signal more than when they were shorter. New buildings will block or cause reflections of the signal and most tuners have problems with that. Try using an antenna that's not outside- you may have too much reflecting signal for the tuner to discriminate direct from reflected. The ability to do this is seen in 'Alternate Channel Selectivity'- higher numbers mean it's better.

I have a new outside antenna and get all the stations in the manual mode but when switching back to auto which is also stereo the same station won't tune in..............sounds like its between frequencies

It's possible to have too much signal strength. If you're within ten miles of the towers, you already have plenty, unless the terrain is steep and you have obstructions between you and the towers. The default shouldn't be "put an antenna outside", it should be "find out why the stations don't come in".

Look at a site called www.tvfool.com- it will show all of the broadcast towers, the distance to your address and the type of antenna needed. It's really for TV, but the old TV band was FM, anyway.

I'm close to a lot of stations but I am down in a valley and its always been hard to pull in these stations. I don't really understand having to much signal strength. Why is it I don't have any issues with receiving these signals in manual mode but only in the auto is when I get all the problems. This problem just started a couple of months ago, before that I didn't have this issue

It's possible that manual mode uses less selectivity, meaning that a wider range of frequencies is accepted.

It could have something to do with the Seasons, too- where are you located?
