Hi All,

I just bought the Epic 80 500 home theatre setup from Axiom & have it currently hooked up to a yamaha RX v 2700. My friend is taking the 2700 from me and I am planning to buy the denon 4806CI. the only concern of mine is that the M80's are 4 ohm & the QS8 V2 are 6 ohm. Will the denon be able to drive these sepakers.

What do people suggest I buy. I am seriously looking for about 4 HDMI in's for my DVD,PS3,Dish Network,Bell express VU.

Please help.

Holy cow; did a bucket of money fall on your head?

I believe the 4806 is stable to 3.2 ohms so you will be fine.

Hold out for the 4808. It'll have 4 HDMI inputs. Should be available soon.

Receiver options

Nice setup. The new denon should have no problem with your 4 ohm mains just like your current Yamaha.

If you want more power, cosider purchasing a $1k receiver like the Denon 3808, Yamaha RX-V1800 or Onkyo 805 and adding a stereo or HT amp with >200 Watts per channel. The Emotiva LPA-1 was a good upgrade from my entry level receiver, but you might consider one of their higher end products.

The Denon will drive a 4ohm load without a problem. That being said, I too would recommend looking into the current crop of receivers. They are all 1.3 HDMI for future proofing, have 4 HDMI inputs, and a slew of additional options (internet radio, etc). By adding a separate amp you will really gain some headroom, especially with the M80's.

I have a Denon 4806CI and the M80v2's in use at the moment.
The Denon has no problem driving them. Just for grins I bi-amped them to see if it would make any difference. Nothing I could detect.
The Denon with the M80's provide awesome sound that is clear even at high volumes, I rarely use it above -30dB as the entire house is filled with music and above that; with the windows open the street can hear it as clear as day.
I would not expect you to need a seperate amp unless you have a huge room and are somewhat deaf :)

Mine sits in a 350 square foot room, which is really too small for this setup.

Pat,

A regular poster at the Axiom boards uses a non-CI 4806 with his M80's (Homedad). He ditched his Adcom amp when he bought the 4806.

It's a great AVR and can be found at very reasonable prices right now. While the new flurry of activity is around HDMI 1.3, I suspect before disks support downstream bitstream HD decoding and deep color, you will most likely be ready for something new anyway (my guess is two years out). The 4806CI will perform admirably. AVscience has some very good prices on Denon and they are authorized. It might surprise you to hear what they sell them for. You will have to call or send them an email to get a quote. I’ve spent thousands on gadgets from them without any complaints.

Plus, the 4806CI is a proven machine and pretty much bug free at this time. You can bet most new AVR's will come with bugs which tends to agrivate me, seeing how I did not ask to be a beta tester.
