OK, I'll bite.

The 56TXi wins it hands down:
Dual iLink ports
USB connectivity
Better parametric room setup
Dual Motorola 48bit DSP's
Simple bi-amp setup
44.8 lbs

For what it's worth...

The Pioneer is rated THX Select - plus. The Denon, had they paid the fee, probably would have quailfied, but wanted to keep costs down. Denon weighs in at just under 40lbs. Denon has a better name in the audio industry. Pioneer's Elite brand wins a lot of "low end" audiophiles over. They both are pricey. The Pioneer's are known for "in your face" sound as opposed to a more "flat" sound from the Denon. Both excellent units. I pick Denon for the sound.

You're right about being pricey, up north here we're looking at about 1800 loonies. I downloaded the 100+ page 56TXi manual the other day and started into it. I found it quite easy to read, which is a big thing for me ... I hate poorly written technical documents. As far as the sound difference goes I doubt these failing ears would be able to tell the difference. :( Iwill do some sound tests prior to laying down any cash though. Thanks for the heads-up.

I noticed in the Pioneer manual that the 56TXi comes with a mic. I don't think the Denon comes with one.
