Got a confirmation from Crutchfiled today that my player was shipped today via UPS. I'm soooo excited! Originally (on Friday) they told me it would probably be around Sept 8th. Now I should get it by Wednesday! I'll be sure to write in with my impressions and review! YES!

Hmmm, having heard they were not being shipped from Denon until Mid September, I called Crutchfield and they said that they definitely did not have any yet. They are taking back orders though. They don't expect any until mid to late September. I was hoping it was true because I want mine too.

My apologies. It's listed on the manifest, but they are sending out my other orders 1st, then sending the DVD player. Oh well. :( I told them to send everything at once! That sucks, they got my hopes up for nothing. They did quote me around Sept 10th.

Be sure to post a review of it in our user reviews section - and get a snapshot of the rear panel... Meanwhile, I'll ask Denon for one after CEDIA.

I noticed the difference between this player and the new Yammie S1500 is that the yammie plays all formats +RW and the Denon does not. Also Im not sure if the yammie has bass management.

3910 dacs

I'm a little concerned that the new 1796 DAC in the 3910 is not quite as good as the 5900 but until I get a unit will not know how good it is.

Anybody know more about the 1796 DAC vs the 5900?

1796 DAC in 3710

Since the DAC in the 5900 and the 2900 is the BB 1790 which is a non standard part, it is hard to compare. However the specs on the BB 1796 are outstanding and rival their top DAC the 1792.

Denon 3910 Once Again

I hate being redundant but I called Denon a few days ago and was told some dealers have the 3910 but, of course, my dealer here in NYC does not have it yet. Has anyone heard or seen it yet? I certainly would appreciate any information at this point. Thanks.

JJ

I visited my local store today. And sure enough, they had recieved a shipment of them in today. They had one on display, however it was not yet hooked up. Rear Panel and Front look identical to the pics on the web. Has the same black finish as the 3805. Im gonna pick one up tommorow. Since this is my first hi-rez player im frantically trying to find a dvd-audio disc here locally.

I'm supposed to received my 3910 on Monday from www.hipposaudiovideo.com. I already have a UPS confirmation number. I just hope that it is as good or better than the 5900. Check out the website, they are an authorized Denon dealer and they gave me a good price.

My 3910 finally arrived. It seems like it's an excellent DVD player with all its features by just reading the manual, I haven't played with it yet. My only complain is it's made in China. I thought most high end equipment from Denon or any other company are made in Japan. Only the lower end models are made somewhere else. I think that's why they where able to sell this cheaper than the 5900.

Here is a comparison of 1792 and 1796 from Burr Brown website

BB1792 BB1796
SNR 132 123
Dynamic range 132 123
THD 0.0004% 0.0005%
Price $13.65 $6.50

It is clear that BB1792 is better than BB1796. I don't know how audible are these differences but the DACs are different.

Similar differences (SNR, THD) exist between 5900 and 3100. Supposedly BB1790 and BB1792 have similar parameters and it is hard to imagine that 3100 with its inferior DACs and scaled down power supply could sound better than 5900.

The specs of the BB 1790 are unknown. The difference between the SNR and D.R. of the 1796 and 1792 is insignificant at those minute levels. The power supply of the 3910 is not small for a switching supply, and separate sections for video, audio, and digital. Significantly larger than the 2900 and runs cool;.

I also thought that this model is manufactured in Japan...a pity!...I'll better check the Onkyo DV-SP1000, which actually is made in Japan, yet its price verges on 2.000 bucks!

The Denon 5900 is also made in China. They have their own facility there, and construction quality is excellent.
