Unfortunately I am currently having to hook up my Denon 3910 via compnent video until I get the new sony display; however, I noticed when calibrating the black levels using the THX test patterns, unlike my Denon 200, the "drop shadow" or below black portion of the THX test was not visible as it was w/the 2200. Is this a deffective unit or will it simply just "do better" using DVI output on this particular model.

Thanks!!

many dvd players dont go below black. This is the case for many "high end DVD players". Dont worry because in the whole sceme of things its not that important for overall picture quality. Im sure your 3910 is better overall.

There is no real info below the standard black levels in the digital scale of things. Nor above the a set level of white. It is a buffer region for mastering.
It is a misnomer that there is blacker than black info.
