Recently purchased the Denon 3808CI, and am having problems getting sound from my 2 pairs of surround speakers. I can only hear them during the "test tones".
What I have:
2 front speakers
1 center
1 sub
2 pairs of surround speaker (I have 1 pair connected to surround A and the other in surround B, but I'm not sure if I should have one connected to surround-back)
Samsung 1080p 52"LCD hdmi
Oppo hdmi dvd player
Everything is hooked up through hdmi
Can someone please tell me the settings I should use on the Denon (Zones?, Amp Assigns?, 5.1, 7.1, etc???????
The Auto-Setup didn't recognize the surround B speakers. I think it has something to do with me not having the correct Zone and Amps assigned.
Would love some help!!!!!!!

The surrounds just behind the listening position are the surrounds.

The ones in the back of the room should be connected to the surround backs.

In this picture, the speakers either side in the foreground are the surrounds. The speakers at the back of the room are the surround backs. All the speakers in a given room should be in the same zone. Do not mix A and B speakers.

I hope this helps.

I had the exact same problem with my 3808ci. It drove me nuts. As TLS Guy mentioned, make sure you have the side surrounds connected to the "surround A" terminals. Make sure your rear surrounds are not connected to the "surround B" terminals, but are connected to the "surround back" terminals (looking at the reciever from behind these are the furthest to the right). In the setup, make sure the amp assignment is set to surround back (or 7.1), not zone 2.
