Denon 3808 or new Emotiva

I posted this question on another forum and did not really get my question annswered, or at least to my level of understanding this stuff. My question is, what would I get by waiting for the new Emotiva line that is supposed to be able to decode the new audio codecs. I was told that by going with separates, my system will be more efficient and have more power but won't necessarily sound better. Either setup would sound the same. Therefore, why get the Emotiva separates? What would more efficiency mean to my setup?
Thanks.

As far as I know, the benefit of separates lies primarily in the amp section. A separate amp can have a larger and more separated power supply, be more stable into low impedance loads and have more headroom than the amp sections of receivers. At lower volume or with reasonably sensitive 8 ohm speakers, there may be no audible difference at all. But if you are trying to run 4 ohm speakers with lower sensitivity quite loud, the separate amp may be well worth the investment.

The question of going with a receiver (and which receiver) vs. separates is a question that can only be answered by what speakers are trying to be driven.

Separates have more flexibility then a receiver for up-grading. Pre-pro's (very few) right now don't have the features that receivers come with.
