Denon 3808 HDMI handshaking issues

Hi everybody,
I just received my Denon 3808 on monday and have since been installing and playing around with it. I found that I seem to be having HDMI handshaking issues between the Denon and my Sharp Aqous 37" LCD. When I switch inputs on the AVR (DVD, to computer, etc.) the TV resets (not really resets, it kind of does what it does when you change inputs on the TV itself, even though I'm not actually switching inputs on it) and sometimes it starts to flicker afterwards.
I've been doing some research and found on another forum somebody that had the same issue and "fixed" it by doing things in a particular order:
If I turn things on in this order Receiver -> TV -> Set Input on Receiver -> Turn on device, there is no flickering.
Now while this helps some, it doesn't change the fact that I have to go through all this every time I switch from my computer to my dvd player. All this kind of defeats the purpose of the receiver, I wanted something that does all the switching for me in a smooth fashion...

I updated to the most current firmware on the Denon, not sure if I can update the firmware on the TV.

Does anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks, Roshi

I'm no expert but here's some ideas. First, if by "etc" you mean cable box, that's a common problem which can sometimes be fixed by cable box update or resetting cablebox output to native, or as I have done, running component/optical from cablebox to the Denon (no loss of quality there). If it occurs when you switch between DVD and computer, I think you should look at how you're having the Denon handle the HDMI scaling for each of those inputs. If you can have the computer's output match the DVD (1080i?) the problem should be eliminated. For more expert advice, try: (I'm new here, can't post link) AVSForum, official 3808ci thread. That is a very active, informative thread. Search handshake on that thread and post your question there, it's a friendly bunch of guys.

I hate HDMI.

Oh, did I already say that?:D

It seems to have a mind of it's own.

I hate HDMI.

That's odd, I've never really had a problem with HDMI, it's always been good to me. If they would just not use HDCP, then it would be much better.

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty sure the issue is between the 3808 and the TV, since it starts having issues even when there is nothing coming in and I just change the inputs on the AVR.
I found this thread with people that seem to have the same problem. I actually decided to send it back and get the Emotiva UMC-1, since not only should it not have that issue, but it can also do my TV's native resolution 1366x768 which the 3808 can do, but then it won't overlay the OSD. I talked to Emotiva and they said that the UMC would have no issues with that.
Anyways, thanks for trying to help.

The first time I had issues with HDMI was when I first got the Toshiba HD-XA1 HD DVD player. I didn't even own a receiver at the time.:D

It was just a direct connection between player & TV!

Like they can actually stop people from overriding that copy protection stuff anyway?:D

They will never learn.:D

Good luck, let us know how it works.
