I looked in the owners manual and I couldn't find anything on this...

I wanted to know if you can play video from a satellite receiver and play audio from a cd player at the same time? If so, how can you do this?

Thanks.

I believe that the only way to do this will be through the zone selection...which means using different speaker outputs than your main speaker outputs. As far as I know, simultaneous usage a video and audio source--that are different--is not possible...

He could run a redundant system using s-video or something to the TV and use the TV to select the source. I used to do this when I didn't want to fire up all the gear just to watch TV. I made two different activities on my remote for TV watching. One fired up just the TV, Sat box and appropriate input and the second one fired up everything.

Good idea with the redundant system but its a bit of a challenge for me as I am runing a home theatre projector set up and I need about 25ft. of cable to run direct from the projector to the satellite receiver. I just thought there might be a way to have the avr display the picture but play the audio from a different source.

It's possible, but not a simple "switch the audio to CD while you watch TV" like you can with an older receiver or integrated amp. You can use one of the spare video inputs on the Denon with an unused video output on the SAT receiver (like composite or S-Video), though, and go into the Input Assignment part of the menu, then choose SAT as the video input with DVD/CD as the audio input. Name it whatever you want and whenever you press the button that corresponds to that input command, it'll be set up for you. If you use a universal remote, you can just create a new button and call it anything, like CDSAT, etc.

If you absolutely don't want to give up any video quality by not using HDMI or Component Video, a small distribution amp will buffer the outputs and won't cause any degradation that may occur by using Y cords. Y cords do work in a pinch, though.

Thanks for the advice. I will definately give this a try.
