I have a question using the On Screen Display with my SamsungHL-R5067W. I have my Sat box and my dvd hooked up via HDMI The switching works great with no issues at all, only problem I have is getting the on screen display to work. When I press the OSD button on the remote I hear the 3806 click and the picture drops and my display has a message "Weak or no signal present" I still get audio however and when I exit out of OSD mode it goes back to my normal picture. I belive it has to do with the 3806 sending the on screen display via HDMI at 480 Anyone know if there is a way to have my Sammy accept at 480 signal? Will a separate Component cable out to my set from the 3806 work just for the OSD? Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

There is a dedicated OSD component out on the back of the receiver. Just connect into any free video input on your display and you should be all set. Any RCA cable should work.

Probably don't even need component, a S-vid will probably work too (or a cheap-o component if you like).

I'm glad you found a solution, however you should have been able to see the menu with the HDMI connection too (your TV should accept 480 resolution input). When I first purchased my 3806, I had an old Sony DVD player connected to it with component cables, then the 3806 connected to my Sony 60" LCD rear projection through an HDMI cable. I never had any trouble seeing the 3806 menu with this set up, though I did keep the DVD player turned off when I was working with the A/V receiver menu. You also need to make sure that your in "amp" mode (soft button area at top) with the remote and that you have selected "DVD" on the hard-button panel of the remote (at least that's the way I did it on my system).

A few months ago, I replaced my old Sony DVD player with a Denon 5910 DVD player and hooked the HDMI cable from the DVD player directly to the TV. I then hooked an S-video cable from monitor out on the 3806 to one of the S-video input ports on the TV (as suggested above and as you have now done). I actually like this set-up better than having both the A/V receiver and the DVD player talking to the TV through the same input port. I hope you are enjoying your system as much as I am enjoying mine!

How well do you guys like the Denon 3806? What's the strong points, anything you don't like about it? I have my eye on this beast.

The 3806 sounds great and has all the features I need. That's the good part. The bad part is that the user interface, manual and remote are all terrible.

Really?!?!? Is this typical Denon? I would think all Denon receivers would be close to the same as far as this aspect of it.

This is typical of my experience with three Denon receivers I own. However, as you go down to less costly models there are fewer features so it's easier to figure things out. Also, unless you get help from here with link to FAQ that Chris from Audyssey wrote, you will never get the auto EQ setup right IMO. Once you know the correct procedure, then it's not a problem. Anyway, that's my experience and I have no plans to replace my 3806.

The problem is that your TV does not accept 480i input through HDMI. I have the same problem. I just use component cables to view the OSD.
