I am trying to set up my Denon 3806 in 7.1 mode. The system was previously set up as a 5.1 system. When I enter the speaker setup mode I do not have the option to add the two back speakers to the 5.1 setup display. I also tried getting the system to detect the back speakers using auto setup but that didn't work either. I know this will suprise the forum but the manual for this thing is crap I wish I could plug my laptop into it. Also I ahve searched forum and could not find any questions specific to this problem so please forgive me if it has been asked.

Thanks in Advance

Have you plugged the Mic in for the EQ system, and run the auto set-up?

May be the previous set-up has been locked so that no accidental change takes place. If that is the case you may want to unlock before making any change.

Auto setup

I have hooked up the mic and ran the test but the system does not send the test tone through the back speakers. I went in and verified the wiring as being correct. At this point I would be content to set the thing to factory defaults then start from the beginning but I can't find that in the manual.

The 3806 allows you to assign the Surround Back amps to bi-amp the mains or to power speakers in Zone 2/ Zone 3.

First, check if the amp is assigned correctly. This can be done in the Option Setup screen's menu choice "1. Power Amp Assign". Make sure it says "S. Back" here. Once you confirm the above, you are ready to re-run the auto calibrate function. Here too you can change the power amp assignment. And here too you need to make sure it says "Surround Back". With these two settings in order, start the auto calibrate routine.

This time it should detect the surrounds back speakers.

I had the amp setting to the front

I had forgotten when I set the system up that I switched the back speaker am to the front speakers. Now if I can just get my sub-woofer settings right all will right in my audio world. At least until my daughter starts playing the soundtrack from "The Marriage of Figaro". Thanks for the advice good people.
