It sure is, and if it goes for less than $735, I'm gonna be pi$$ed. I can't complain - I've had it for several months, and it's been a godsend. You just don't see these units coming back in that often, so I'm guessing these will go up a bit more. My advice (if you're in the market and can budget out) - put in a bid now while the price is low. If you're able to get it under $700, you've stole it.

Everybody realize these are refurbished units? $700 is way too much for a Bstock with a 90 day warranty.

SJ,
It's not worth it. This topic was already run into the ground months ago, and many members have been buying HK units from Harman Kardon Direct off ebay with 1 yr warranties and saving several hundred dollars.

You know the deal with trying to save money on Denon equipment "new" on line and Denon's policy with warranties. If you are willing to pay an extra $300+ for a 12 month warranty on new stock, then I have no argument. I own a B stock receiver, and if you feel I made a bad decision, please say so. If you can find the 3805 "B stock" for less, with a 90 day warranty, let us know. If you want to pay $150 for a 1 yr warranty at Dakmart ($850) for their "B stock", again, no argument. Generally, if these units don't conk out in the first three months, chances are they'll be fine for 12. If you're in doubt, you can pay extra for the peace of mind.

My position is pretty simple.

The price of B Stock is far higher than what the business model dictates. Vendors of B Stock are enjoying a better ROI (return on investment) with far less operating costs than B&M vendors selling A Stock. If a B&M can afford to cut 10, 20 even 30% off the price of A Stock, then B Stock vendors can afford to cut 40 or even 50% off the price of their product.

This Ubid is a classic example fo the overpriced B Stock theory. The price continues to rise as more buyers run up the price. If the first 10 buyers had locked in the price, and no additional buyers had entered the bidding, the price would have been fair. When the bidding is done, the price will be approaching a deep discounted A Stock unit.

Sorry, overpriced.

Buckeyefan is right, you ran your theory into the ground a few months ago. Bottom line is if the market place deemed the B stock prices too high nobody would purchase them. Enough said.

Its $660 with 22 min left...

BTW, B-stock, A-stock who cares!?!
its all about the sound. if you can get a great quality product and save even 10% then its a good deal. Who cares what the business model dictates...when people are bidding on them, the market indicates what the purchase price should be. If its a bad deal then people wouldn't be buying them.

Plenty of people jump at bad deals and think they are getting a good one. If it works for you at the price you paid then you'll be happy. Hope these units pan out for everyone. The 3805 is a marvellous receiver.

Good point but I was More or less arguing the A-stock, B-stock issue. most people in the market to purchase at this level have done their research and narrowed their prospects down to a few models. If they can save a few dollars on the same model they would have purchesed at another place, then why not? The purchaser has to weight out all variables (new, used, warranty, condition, shipping, etc...)and the pull the trigger when he is ready. Its all a gamble anyways. you can have problems with A & B stock. Or you can find that treasure. Assuming you know the market value of the item purchased, only time will tell if they got a good deal or not

As soon as Ubid placed the Marantz SR8400 on the block, Marantz soon released the SR8500's. I went through the Denon website in China and Japan, but didn't see any surprises...yet. I did see a Denon 3890 receiver, but think it's their version of our 3805. They most likely need to get rid of their remaining stock. I'm willing to bet these units are new from the warehouse, making room for their new models. Just a hunch.

B-Stock: is it still new in an unopen box?
Speaking of warranty, I recently purchased a HK7300 and it's still covered under manufacture warranty. My question is should I purchase an additional 3 or 5 years warranty for this unit as I'm still able to do it within 30 days.
I normally don't buy extend warranty. However, this unit produces tons of heat so I'm afraid that it will easily break down on me later.
do u think it's a waste for buying insurance for this expensive unit?

Generally, extended warranties are a rip off and there to create big profit margins for the retailer. I bought an extended warranty on my (then) new Mazda 626. The paint started chipping of the front end from stones, and got really bad after the normal warranty was up. The extended warranty kicked in and they had the entire car repainted - 2x. Not a bad deal, but that's the luck of the draw. How much is the warranty, and who's it through?

I was mostly concerned by their statement that accessories may be missing and they will not tell you which accessories. I would be rather unhappy to know the remote control was missing. Not to mention the unhelpful nature of that statement ;). Plus, no returns.

Otherwise, given that nothing is horribly wrong with it, it seems like a great deal. No telling how much the price will change in the next one day and fourteen hours though.

Since I didn't manage to get one of the AVR 3805 units from Ubid (I'm cheap, I guess), I was actually looking at that a little while ago :)...
