Which reciever would you guys go with if you could pick one? I can get the HK AVR7300 for $1200 just like the Denon 3805. Or would the Denon be more comparable to the HK AVR635?

There is no comparison. Get the HK 7300. If you are in the US, you can get a better deal at HK's ebay store. The 7200 can be had for less, but doesn't offer the same video upconversion. IMO, the Denon 3805 is much better than the 635, but quite a ways behind the 7300. The HK 7000 series are absolute powerhouses.

7300 for sure

I'm in the same boat as you zachwhite, I'm upgrading my speakers to all Polks. I'm looking at the Yamaha RX-V2500, Denon AVR-3805, HK AVR-635 and the HK AVR-7300. I'm with buckeyefan 1, the 7300 is your best buy. Go to www.soundandvisionmag.com/article.asp?section_id=1&article_id=699&page_number=1 good review on the 7300. You must live in the U.S. otherwise you would pay $2600us for the 7300. Harman Kardon is very expensive up here in Canada. Go for the HK 7300. :)

I can get a brand new 7300 for $1250. Anyone ever seen it for less than that? I can get the 635 for only $609 so the 7300 is double the price but Im talking myself into thinking its worth it. Im a little nervous about going for one of the HK Ebay refurbished ones...

The HK refurbished ones are right from Harman, it is their store. If they sold to Canada I'd be all over that like Paris Hilton at a rock star convention. You get the full manufacturer warranty and they've already fixed whatever was wrong, and if something else goes wrong take it to the local authorized repair shop. Do yourself a favour and pick one up off of the Ebay store, save the $400 and blow it on moon pies and penny whistles, or whatever the kids are into now adays. I don't see how you can loose this way.

P.S. the 7300 is an amazing powerhouse of a unit, I think it's a good deal at $1250 US, but it's better at $850

Confused on Prices

Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but why do you think the Denon 3805 costs US$1200?

I picked mine up for US$850 a year ago, in the box and with warranty ... certainly I can't be the only person here to get a bargain?

I don't know anything about the HK receiver, but my Denon is nice.

The HK 7300 is a beast but IMHO it is not worth twice the cost of a HK 635. I'd get a new HK 635 and put the other $641 in the bank and begin saving for a speaker upgrade; that's where you'll notice the biggest improvement in sound.

I have a Denon 3805 and it's a terrific receiver. When I purchased it I wanted to get the HK 7200 but it wouldn't fit on my shelf. Be warned the 7200/7300 receivers are huge and heavy. Make sure it will fit on your shelf. I'd get the 7300 for the video upconversion feature.

I don't think it's a Canadian thing at all, I don't think Zach is Canadian, otherwise his prices would be alot alot alot higher on that Harman. Maybe he just doesn't have a good dealer near him, or maybe $1200 is the US MSRP for that 3805? I can't say for sure. And why is this a "Canadian" thing all of a sudden eh? Are you trying to start an international incident. Why I'm tempted to draft a polite letter of indignation to the editor. Not that I'd mail it though, heavens, how rude would that be of me?

Darn yous Nomas. Zinged again. By the way receiver still not here. USPS only gaurantees between 3 and 10 day delivery.

P.S.
I was thinking of starting with more like a NOMASSSSSSSSSSSSSS ala James T Kirk's KAHHHHHHNNNNNNNN in ST 2 or 3 or 4, whichever one had Khan, but settled on a darn yous ala Jay in the planet of the apes scene in Jay and silen Bob strike back.

I don't know which is scarier, the fact that you don't know that The Wrath of Khan was Star Trek II, or the Jay and Silent Bob reference.

And know that I ordered my Axiom's from the outlet and had to wait THREE WHOLE WEEKS! I feel your pain...............and take a perverse pleasure from watching you post endlessly about it. Now, if it arrives in tiny little gasoline soaked pieces, I promise to stop giving you a hard time.

I think.

Unless it's on fire.............then I'd make smores..........'cause they're yummy chocolatey marshmallowy goodness, and I'm not one to waste a good fire.

But I’m sure everything will be fine.

Unless your GF knows someone at the USPS…..then you’re hosed. Eh.

And because I'm not one to hijack a thread without at least trying to address the question at hand:

In my opinion 635<3805<7300 (I think most would agree). The key is; what do you need? I have the 3805 and it does everything I want it to do plus it has all the abilities that I plan on utilizing in the future. If the 635 does everything you can conceivably imagine you will need for a good long while AND it will drive your speakers, then save the dough. If it will do everything you can conceivably imagine you will need for a good long while AND it will NOT drive your speakers, add an amp. Keep moving up the line (feature-wise) until you get to a receiver (or a receiver/amp combo) that has what you need. That's what I did.

I hope everything arives soon. Everyday when I get home from work and there is no delivery guy lying on my porch with a hernia because of how heavy the box is I die just a little inside, just a little.

Hey, I'm not the one that has some kind of evil sub that cries out for the sacrifce of little children. What does it say? If I had to guess it would go something like this, "Nomas feed me, feed me Nomas. I need the blood of the innocent to hit 20hz and below. That's right stuff the little one in feet first." That's some horrible parenting feeding your kid to the sub. ;)

I was about 98% sure that WOK was ST II, but you know how it is on this site, if for some reason I was wrong I would be corrected about 8 times before I could blink. I stand by the J&SBSB reference, it was apt, apt I cry. I've seen that movie at least 7 or 8 times and I can't stop laughing. Everytime I laugh at some new stuff, and the outtakes are just great. Sure it's vulgar and rude, but so am I, that's why the chicks dig me. Ok, well my mom and GF seem to think I'm ok, well mostly, ok sometimes :( . 2 out of 3,000,000,000 aint that bad.

I'd still go 7300 over the 3805, if you can get that Mfg. refurb then the two are neck in neck pricewise and the 7300 is the superiour unit. There now I'm not totally hijacking.

My defense, "Some of my best friends are Canadian; others live in Quebec."

No, seriously though, after the Sponsorship scandals how much more Americanized can Canada get?

No, this time really seriously -- I've spent the past two winters in Winnipeg (which is in the province of Manitoba for all Bloc Quebecoise) and I quite enjoyed the experience of plugging the car in and looking forward to the summer. The six inches of snow on May 12, 2004, though, gave me some pause...

Sending x-border good feelings your way!

Yes and no (technically no and yes).

Let us compare apples with apples shall we? A referb HK vs a MSRP Denon? Hmm. Dakmart lists the referb 3805 at $850 here. So we have the 635 for about $600, the 3805 for about $850, and the 7300 for about $1250. Aside from the 635, I know that the 3805 and the 7300 have warrantees. So, No they are not neck in neck price-wise, and Yes the 7300 is a superior unit.

Now, the other prices quoted for the 7300 in a couple of the posts above list the 7300 for closer to (or even less than) the price of the Denon, but without a warrantee..............I don't know. It's your money. The question in my mind isn't whether or not to consider the 635, it is whether the 7300 gives you $400 extra dollars worth of functionality over the 3805. I'm not zachwhite0 so I can't answer that question. But at least let us set up a fair pricing comparison.

Oh, and my sub accepts Marantz receivers as well, so don't mock it dude. It’s hungry and I’m running out of children.

I would agree with you but that Harman 7300 comes with the full warranty. I tis being sold on Ebay by Harman Kardon themselves. It and their website are howthey get rid of the refurbs and old inventory. That 7300 might not be worth $400 more, but it is worth $40 dollars more for sure.

That HK ended up going for $890 with only $38 shipping. That's a fantastic price. Given that new piece of info, I'd definitely be tempted to go with the HK (I didn't say DEFINITELY GO because I researched the 3805 heavily before I bought, I'm going on other's word that the 7300 is "better").

Now, if you want to get FREE shipping, have it sent to Takeereasy with your address as the return address and Takeereasy's GF will have Canadian Customs ship it directly to you free of charge. Now, you may have to wait a week or month or so.........

BTW, I checked and Dakmart puts the 3805 on Ebay starting at $850 with a Buy It Now price of $853. Zero bids, go figure.

I paid C$1680 tax in for my 3805 last year. I can't remember the exchange rate at the time but the price was at least below the US list price. The lowest price I could get for a 7200 at that time was about C$2399 as a blow out sale because the 7300 was on the way in. No doubt Canadians would be buying much more HK if their street prices are closer to those in the US. For the same, or a little more money, the 7300 is a much better deal.
