Hi I just recently purchased the 3805 and am very pleased thus far. My question is with the remote for some reason the top source on and source off display is no longer lighting. Has anyone encountered this or is there something wrong wirth the remote. Any suggestions or answers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Freddy, my remote did much the same thing(the source on/off buttons were like 2 levels duller) and I was about to go back to my retailer as I wasn't sure if I was just imagining it. It then came good of it's own accord so I didn't go any futher with the fault(3 year warranty). My suggestion would be a call to your retailer as it seems that you are not alone with this. Don't know if this helps. Regards Steve M.

Thanks Steve.

I contacted the retailer and they will give me a new remote. They have said that I have been the only one who has reported this problem. Thanks for the info hopefully mine cures itself also.

My 3805 remote has done the same thing, but it has not recovered-- I thought I was going crazy trying to set up the surround sound, but I didn't have the buttons I needed! I'm going to call Crutchfield today.

Today I was trying to set up the remote to operate some other components. I had started this a few days earlier and it worked as normal. Today after I hit the on and off buttons simultaneously to go into that mode, only the numbers 5 and 6 appeared, instead of 1 through 6. After I hit the invisible 1 to try to initiate programming, the remote panels went black, the volume circle stayed lit, but nothing including on/off worked after that. I had to take a battery out and back in to make it operational again.

Remote problem

My one has had a similar problem where the 'Play' 'Stop' 'Pause' buttons disappear as soon as i select VCR 1 or 2. The buttons reapper when I select DVD. Seems like a software/firmware issue with these remotes. Others may be a hardware issue.
Surprised to see others are having similar problems. i'm hoping to get a free replacement. Denon better sort this one out or else there will be a lot of angry Denon owners. Its a pitty the quality of the remote doesn't reflect the excellent quality of the Amp.

My remote also does this, just about everytime I use the learning feature. The remote goes blank and does nothing, have to remove the battery.
Is Denon offering a trade-in program for a normal reliable remote??? ;)

Assuming everyone is using quality (vs the throw aways supplied) new batteries, it sounds like faulty units. Mine controls seven different components (plus TV) and has worked flawlessly (once I figured it out) on the same batteries for three + months......daily use 3+ hours per day average.

Denon has updated the remote for the 3805. All you have to do is call Denon get a RMA to have your's replaced with the new version. Here is a pic of the new blue touchscreen remote.

Uuuugh! That looks like it will be even worse than the old one. I can't imagine blue on blue is going to be easy to see in daylight.

Guys,

Thanks for posting the information about the Denon Remote issues.

I love my 3805. A great unit, no two ways about it, worth every cent. :D
Unfortunately my remote is 1 of the fault ones. The border dissapeared as did the entire area for selecting the surround options eg: stereo, 5/7ch stereo etc.
After reading the postings here, I contacted my supplier, who in turn
contacted Denon Australia.
I have since returned to remote to be fixed/replaced and eagerly await a new remote of the original one fixed.
I phoned the tech support people here in Australia; very nice people who were happy to speak with me; no complaints about support :D , they advised that they will most likely simply replace the unit.

So once again, thanks to those who posted the info.

Personal Comment: I am very dissapointed in Denon, they could have easily posted a notice on their website, or simply recalled all the remotes, or advised their retailers to contact/email their customers about this problem.
A friend & I ripped out hair out for 2 days thinking that we had somehow accidently hit a combination of keys to disable parts of the display.

The other dissapointing thing, is that i will most likely not have a remote for a week. Why I could have been sent a remote, upon receipt of the new one, I could have sent back the old one, it would have been a nice touch, something worth mentioning to other non-Denon people or anyone thinking about buying Denon. I will never know why this wasnt an option.

Lastly a mate of mine (also with a faulty remote) has spent hours makeing the remote learn all of his other remotes. You can imagine that he's not a happy camper and was not impressed about being without his remote for a week whilst its repair/replaced and having to re-leaning everything on the new remote.

So come on Denon, you are better than this. I would expect this sort of thing from some cheaper company but not you! :(

Am I being to critical?? Comments Appreciated

Cheers
Lee.

You arent being overly critical.

Not at all.

I sell stuff for a living.

Think about it, I just sold you a $1200 US piece of equipment (the receiver) and the accessory item (in this case a $50 remote control) has broken, and I am too cheap to send you a replacement accessory item without having the original accessory item back in my hands?

How cheap

True you must wait for the replacement to arrive, but the least they could do is allow you to keep the original unit until the replacement has arrived.

Just makes sense to me.

I just thought i'd say that I finally have the new remote.
Blue background and all, as per access denied's picture.

It feels slightly lighter and definitely has longer battery life than the
old remote. The screen is slightly harder to see during the day, but is still easily readable.

I was very lucky that our local agent gave me a remove out of a newly shipped unit, since the replacement remotes wont be available until mid Dec'04 here in Australia. So I thank my local agent for doing that for me. :)

My thoughts to anyone who has the old remote, even if its not faulty get a new one anyway. It appears that noone knows which ones are faulty and there seems to ryme nor reason as to why or when they fail. The last thing you want is for the remote to fail 1 day out of the warranty period. I wouldnt want to go down the warranty/out-of-warranty/faulty remote rat hole for any money.

Cheers Lee.

I shipped my remote to Denon in IL on November 8th. I was told they were back ordered and it would be a couple of weeks until they had more replacement remotes. I received confirmation that it was shipped today so maybe I'll have it by the weekend. I only use it to program my Marantz remote so it hasn't been a big deal. That original 969 was a POS. I can't imagine the new one will be a whole lot better but as long as it works it will be a step in the right direction.

Well, I got my new one and it IS NOT any better than the first one. It still locks up when I use the learning function. It still eats batteries. I still can't see anything during daylight hours, and it still will not control any PVR functions. In fact I don't see any improvement at all,... only difference is it's blue, not black.

3805 Remote

I have replaced the remote for my 3805 twice, and finally had enough. I broke down and bought a Philips Pronto and it's great. Controls not only all of my AV equipment but also the shades and lights.

Just get a MX-500 FULL learning remote and put that Denon remote away,
as I've done, along with ALL the others!

Another Remote Question

I just purchased the 3805 and heard what appears to be a little piece of plastic rolling around inside the remote so I took it back to the dealer for replacement. The new one does the same thing. Is it defective or I am hearing a sensor move around? Anyone hear something rolling around inside the remote? Thanks.
