Denon 3805 OSD Help

I just recently bought the Denon 3805 reciever and it sounds great. However when connecting a source through the component inputs (DVD and Dish Network) when you change the volume nothing comes up on the tv. However when I play video from the vcr connected through composite cables everything shows up. I was thinking it may be that the component just passes through while the composite actually gets upconverted. Then as reading the review on this site it says that the OSD is able to work with component sources and it also says in the manual. However i tried what it said in the manual and it didn't help. So is this just not possible or am i not setting something up correctly?

did you wait long enough? i expected video to come through right away wheni hooked mine up but seem to find myself waiting maybe 10-15 seconds fopr the signal even after audio is heard.

ya, We got this reciever last weekend and even when changing the volume like 30 mins after watching nothing comes up for the OSD.

does anyone know if it just can't show the OSD with component sources? Or is there a way to get it to work?

I have a Denon 2805 (which I love) and in this feature it's the same as the 3805. The on screen display will display setup information thru the component video output, but the OSD of volume controls, etc. is only output thru S-video or composite outputs. Of course it also is displayed on the front panel of the receiver. So if you are viewing a source connected through component outputs, if you enter the setup mode you will of course be able to view all of the setup menus, but outside of that, volume, tone adjustments, etc. will not be displayed onscreen. It's not much of an issue to me, as it's displayed on the receiver, and I adjust volume levels by ear, anyway.

That's not quite right. All information is output from the component cable to your monitor. But, if the input into the receiver is component it will not display the volume and basic information, it will display the basic information on a composite or s-video input. The setup OSD will still show with a component input but it blacks out the picture where it is an overlay with composite or s-video. I have the 3805 and I find it annoying but this scenario also happens with the other receivers in this price range. I'm sure the next 3806 will provide a component OSD generator or whatever it needs to display the information.
