Hello ncarrothers and welcome to the forum.

What kind of system is it? (Niles, Xantech, Russound, etc.)

The back of the 3805 has a control in/out jacks which may work with your IR system. You will need to use a 3.5mm jack out from the IR main system unit into the control in on the back of the receiver. This will control the Zone2/zone3 functions of the receiver. You can assign the rear surround speaker terminals to power the speakers in other parts of the house but if you are trying to power multiple sets of speakers you will need an amp. (For this you would hook the amp to the zone2 preouts pg.12)

How is the IR signal transmitted to the main system unit? Are there IR "eyes" or keypads? If they are keypads they will need to be programmed to control your specific gear.

Let me know more info and I'm sure we can help get you up and running.

Seriously, I have no life.
The 3.5mm IR port on Denon receivers should operate ANY zones, not just 2 and/or 3. This may be different on the 05 series, but when I installed a 2007 model, it operates the Main and Zone 2 commands.

You may be in a situation where the previous owner removed somehting that would keep the IR from working. If there's no wall wart for power or no module for accepting the IR receiver's input and plugging the emitters into it, you'll need to replace them. Also, some IR receivers son't work well, if at all, when there's a lot of other IR sources, like direct sunlight, Compact Florescent bulbs and plasma TVs. I have seen regular light bulbs cause IR codes to be blocked.

Remote control IR jacks & RS-232C terminal.

See page 12 & 13 from your Denon AVR-3805's manual.

Also, check pages 69 to 71 (Multi-Zone).

Thanks for the repsponse.
There is currently an "eye' on the wall that is connected to a Yamaha HTR 5730 receiver in a pantry which is working with the Yahama, and some Athena surround sound speakers. Came with the house.
I think my Dennon is a better system. I have Logan Martin Fresco's that will be paired. Any suggestions on a new remote?
Have never liked the Dennon remote.
Appreciate any advice.
