Denon 3805 Display Question

The display on my 3805 will not stay on. When changing the volume or other function on the receiver the display comes on and stays on for a few seconds and then turns off again. I didn't change anything on the receiver and it worked fine two days ago. I've checked all the settings and buttons on the receiver including scanning the manual and I cannot find anything about turning the receiver display on and off. I'm not talking about the OSD that displays on my TV. This symptom is similar to using Pure Direct mode that turns off the display but in this case Pure Direct is not selected and I'm using the Auto DD/DTS setting. Does anyone have any idea what's going on or if there is a setting that may have been changed?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sounds like the capicitor in the display unit is failing. It is getting enough of a charge to display when you adjust the volume, but not enough to keep it on when nothing is being used. At this point is up to you if you want to send it in to be repaired. Does the display light up when switching inputs? I would ask myself how often do you look at the display and if you can makes adjustements using the GUI features then if it's worth sending it in for repair.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yeah I was thinking something went wrong. I'm just getting ready to upgrade the AVR to a 3808 and this will kill its resale value. I can live with it this way and don't spend too much time looking at the display. If anyone has any other thoughts please post.

Perhaps you (or someone else) hit the dimmer button on the remote? That would yield the same effect, if your Denon is like my Pioneer.

Check out page 68 of the of the owner's manual for more info on that. The location of the button on the remote is shown on page 19.

Thanks Adam, that was it. I missed that in the manual and I don't use the Denon remote and don't have the dimmer function programmed into my MX-500 so I have no idea how it got changed. Anyway it's working fine now. :)

Ooops I meant resistor not capicitor in my OP, I had this issue with my Onkyo, so sorry for any confusion.

Kudos to Jostenmeat for correcting me on this issue in another thread.
