Denon 3803 Zone 2 Question

Hi,

I've had a 3803 for a couple of years and have used the multi-zone; multi-source functionality with 7.1 setup in my "HT room" and the zone 2 line outs feeding a separate receiver with speaker selector driving 5 other pairs of speakers in various rooms & patio.

I was using a CD player as an input to the Denon and could listen to CD's in both zones at the same time or either zone by themselves. My CD player died and I decided to setup a p.c. jukeobx (a whole different discussion :) ). I added a sound card to my p.c. and utilized the digital coax out as a digital input to the back of the 3803 (I really want to use the smarts of the Denon to decode the audio signal rather than the p.c. sound card).

Anyway, zone 2 will not play the "p.c. music". Through trial and error, it seems the 3803 will not pass a digitally input signal to the zone 2 line outs? Is this correct? If so , why does Denon do it that way? It seems (I am very basic with this stuff  ) the receiver is getting my digital signal, has to decode it and therefore has both the digital and analog version of the sound (depending on where the zone 2 line outs are branched into the processing chain). Why can't it output the decoded signal to zone 2?

The only work-around I've come up with is to use the speaker pre-outs to feed the 2nd receiver, which works fine when I want music everywhere. BUT, I lose my multi-source functionality and can no lonber watch a movie in the HT room while listening to music outside? If my above conclusions are correct, does anyone have any suggestions? Is this "limitation" inherent in all multi-zone, multi-source receivers?

Thanks,
David
