Denon 3803/Marantz 7400-are these a good buy today?

I have an opportunity to buy any of these two for less than the price of a 2805 and about the same price of a 2105/2106. I plan using the receiver with a 5.1 Energy Take System (sats+sub). Do you think these are a good buy? What are the pros/cons of them compared to the 2106/5600?
Thanks,
Ariel.

P.S. They are new and come with full warranty (old stocks).

For the Take5, either will be fine, and I'd take the higher power over most of the newer features, even if you don't really need it for that speaker setup.

Those are very nice buys at the price you are quoting. The 7400 would be my pick of that litter. It is a superior unit to the 5600. The drawbacks are that it is not as technologicaly loaded as the 7500 (no auto setup, not THX certified, only 2 component inputs). I'd say that the 7400 is most likely the best buy if the cost is the same as the 3803. It has only been replaced for a few months while the 3803 is going on 2 + years. Any of the receivers you listed would do a good job with those speakers, but , like I said, I think the best option there is the 7400.

I compared the 7200 and the 3802 when they were both released, back in the day. I was not impressed by the 3802 but I was very impressed with the 7200, though I ended up getting a 6200 because it was only 5w less power and had all the features I needed, and to add to that, I still felt it sounded better than the 3802. Between the two you listed, I'd also take the 7400.

Denon 3803/Marantz 7400,

arielshiran,

Both are fine receivers, no doubt. I've never tried Denon, but I have had Sony ES, 2 Yamahas, 2 HKs, and now a Marantz SR-8400. I would have to say, the Marantz sounds better than any of my previous receivers with the HK a close second. I've admittedly never tried Denon or Pioneer Elite but there's been excellent reviews on both those models also. There was a HomeCinema Choice Review (European Mag) on the SR-7500 in an April issue. In the same issue, the Marantz SR-8500 also received a glowing review (faced off against a Yammy, a Pioneer, and a Rotel). Go to this link and you'll find the review on the
SR-7500 (the 7400's successor). I think there's a previous one on the SR-7400 as well. Click on reviews, manufacturers, choose Marantz. (Choose reviews for the month of April) :)
