I have a new receiver and have completed the full setup.
I have noticed that sometimes when I switch away from my DIRECTV HDMI input to another HDMI input, and then switch back to DIRECTV, my tv says there is no signal.
My wiring is tight. If I turn off the tv or the DTV box and then back on, the signal is there.
What is happening here and can it be fixed?

Otherwise, I love the unit. The Audyssey speaker set up was noticeably more accurate than my previous Yamaha set up.

Hello and welcome. What kind of HDMI cables and TV are you using in your setup?

Welcome to the world of HDMI handshake issues. As a former Direct TV customer, I can assure their devices are designed with absolute rock bottom engineering. Almost for certain the problem is with your Direct TV box.

Certified 4k, maybe 8K HDMI cables and LG OLED 4K tv.

I didn't have this issue with my old Yamaha.

Hard to know who to blame here. I've had similar issue with a new Yamaha receiver. It didn't like it when I switched from one source to another and back again and I received the "No Signal Detected" message on the TV. Naturally, I blamed the Yamaha.;) How old is that Directv box?

It's a few years old, but still the latest model.
At least I can't assume my new receiver is defective.

You know, it really is ridiculous how the HDMI spec changes and new features are added but nobody is compelled to include ALL of the features of the new spec and the older specs get left behind. So, as new devices hit the shelves, there is no telling what kind of issues one may have when connecting a new TV to a two year old receiver along with a five or ten year old video device. Full backward compatibility and a full feature set should be mandatory. Oh, and you can’t include those features until the HDMI spec is finalized. Can you imagine the headaches if the wifi standard worked in such a way?

You might try changing the video output of the Directv. Some resolution settings might work better than others. Turn off any upscaling in the Denon. Oh, and check that cable. Post any info. Some use clever ads but aren’t actually Premium Certified.
