I'm going to be delegating my denon 2200 to another room so i'm going to need another dvda/sacd player primarily for audio.I have a tosh hda1 for video.Between the denon 2900 or the 3910 which would be the better player.Obviously they will be used, cant afford the 3930ci.thanks

Gosh, I love my 3910, bought used, but I need it for audio and video. As a stand alone audio unit.........I would think the guts would all be a step up from the 2200..........which I haven't heard. I will say the 3910 was better sounding than a Pioneer DV45A as well as a Pioneer Dv563A.....the build quality on the 3910 is awse.........hth.

I replaced a 2900 with the 3910 mainly because I wanted Denonlink and HDMI. Other than that, I was very happy with the 2900-it was a very nice machine and gave me hours of trouble-free playing time. If you don't need HDMI or Denonlink, it is a very good deck, especially for the HD audio formats. The only audio decoder it didn't have was HDCD, but there are even fewer of those disks than either of the HD formats (I have a couple thousand audio disks, and only a handful have HDCD encoding). I sold my 2900 for around $350 less than a year ago, and they are probably even cheaper now.

Can you afford the 2930ci? It offers better video performance than what you're looking at.

video performance would be great.but priority is with sound in dvda/sacd.I dont know the cost of the 2930ci so i cant say.2900 vs 3910 was what i was looking at for opinions originally.obviously if there is something better within their price range i would consider it.HOW DOES THE 2930CI COMPARE TO THE 2900 OR 3910?

The 2900 lacks one thing that the 2200 had - the +10dB offset for hirez audio, so I would say this is a negative against it. 2900s are much older players at this point, so I would say 3910 or even 2910.

The 2910 and the 2930 are basically the same machine except the 2930 has the ability for 1080P. The audio DACs are the same as the 2200 and 2910. The 2930 lists for $849 but you can buy on line from an authorized dealer for under $700 delivered. I'd go for the newer player also plus it comes with a warranty.

Thanks,if the 2910 & 2930 have the same dacs as the 2200 there is no point to it since i want something that is better.1080p is useless for me since i dont have a 1080p display and i'm presently using the tosh for most of the video. presently have a bid on a 3910 so we'll see.Almost forgot the denon would be used via component and dig as well as analog for sacd/dvda since the tosh is being used via HDMI and dig.(i only have 1)Thanks again

That's an utterly ridiculous statement. The Silicon Optix chip in the 2930 has never been in any Denon prior to the 2930 and will produce a markedly better picture at *any* upscaled resolution... including 1080i. I don't believe the audio DACs are the same either as the PCM1791a chips are new-to-market this year as well. The 2930ci is a vastly different machine than the 2200/2910.

Enrique!
Don't get bogged down in the endless technical game. Buy a 3910! The sound quality is as good as you can get in Mid Fi. I just took my rig all apart two days ago and was once again amazed at the weight and heft of the 3910. It is rock solid.
