You need to try all the codes in the back of your Denon manual for the Scientific Atlanta cable box. My Denon 3805 was able to learn the codes just fine for my 8300HD DVR. It also learned the Toshiba codes for my Cinema Series set.

The ideal sound for the tv on a Denon receiver is Dolby Pro Logic IIx Cinema. It sounds much better than Neo 6 in my opinion. 7 channel surround sound is ok if you want sound from your rear surrounds all the time, but I think the center sounds better in DPLIIx Cinema. You'll need to tweak your graphic eq to your liking. The Denon receivers come out of the box very flat, so boost the bass and highs a bit for some dynamics. You should have trim controls for bass, treble, and at least a 7 band graphic eq which is a lifesaver.

In the SA STB, for Audio, I would suggest the selection "Dolby Digital" which should do a better job for the 2807 connected via HDMI. And for the TV, in Audio menu, set speakers OFF.

Ahhhh, yes, with speakers on on both TV and HT system at the same time sounds horrible on my system. I had forgotten about that until mfabien mentioned it.

Also to the OP, have you run Auto EQ yet? I would suggest it if you have not already. The Denon remote is terrible. I bought a Harmony remote and only use the Denon for setup changes in the receiver.

Does anyone have experience setting up pure HDMI connectivity from all the components? Here's what I have:

Sony A2000 TV with HDMI connector
TW Cable HD DVR box with HDMI connector
Oppo DVD player with DVI/HDMI connector

Any suggestions for best setup and configuration?

Thanks,

James

have been using a Denon 2807 Receiver now for 4 months as the heart of my home cinema system and have found it a great performer. The sound is very comparable to my old Technics HiFi amp, even with pure CD Audio. The Amp has plenty of power, good frequency range and seems to suit my TDL floorstanding speakers. I use a B&W centre speaker and Paradigm sub. AR-8 rears make up the full complement. Only niggles are: - Complex programming - No digital out - Could do with 2 more video in sockets - Poor remote control (ugly) For £600 (if you shop around) I think it is a good value amp for the quality and performance....
