Denon 2807 not switching HDMI audio

I'm new to this forum and have joined in order to try and get a solution to a problem that's driving me nuts.

I have a Denon 2807 amp to which I have connected my Sky box (HDMI 1) and a cable for A/V output from my laptop computer (HDMI 2). HDMI out goes to the TV. Digital Video HDMI in assignment is set as TV HDMI1 and VDP HDMI 2. Audio digital input assignment is set likewise. The audio out on the video in page is set to amp.

TV video and audio work fine. When I connect the HDMI 2 cable to the HDMI socket in the computer and switch to VDP, I get video but no audio. The audio output of the computer mutes, but nothing comes via the amp. If I go to the video in page and change the audio out setting to TV, I get the computer audio from the TV.
Also, if I plug the cable directly into the TV, bypassing the amp, the TV outputs video and audio.

Finally, if I unplug the Sky output HDMI lead from the amp from HDMI 1 in, and substitute the computer HDMI lead, switching to TV, all works as it should, video and audion from the computer via the amp. If I do the reverse and input the TV to HDMI 2, switching to VDP, I get TV video but no audio.

So, I know the computer cable is ok and I know it is passing audio, but for some reason the amp is not outputting the audio from HDMI 2 input. I know that HDMI 2 in socket appears to be faulty.

I do have young grandchildren who love pressing buttons, but all setting look correct to me. I think I have a socket fault but maybe, just maybe, there is a stting somewhere that is miss-set.

Any thoughts out there?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

Seems like you have all the input settings correct, and you've done a good job troubleshooting the issue.

One thing that I'd check is the input mode assigned to HDMI 2. An easy way to check is to look at the front display on the Denon near the upper center (also described on page 5 of the owner's manual) when you have the VDP source selected. If that says "ANALOG" or "EXT. IN", then that would explain why you don't get sound from the HDMI input. Page 23 of the manual discusses how to change that setting, and it's a single button on the remote control...so the grandkids might have gotten you. :D

Thanks for that suggestion. As soon as the Tour de France has finished in half an hour, I'll get on to it again.

So emotional seeing Bradley Wiggins lead down the Champs Elysees and then Mark Cavendish coming through to win the sprint. Couldn't talk for ages!!

Yup, that was the problem Adam, it was set to line in. Almost certainly little fingers pressing the line in button under the front flap. It will be firmly taped cloed when they next visit. If that's what they're like at 18 months and 2 years, what'll it be like in a year from now.

Many many thanks. Like many red blooded males, I'm not good at reading handbooks from front to back and was unaware of this poo-trap. I think I saw mention of control lock somewhere which could be very useful...that's if it wasn't on my phone, or car, or computer. so confusing!

Excellent - I'm glad that it was something easily fixed! Hardware problems are a lot worse (at least for me). :)

Tucson Arizona eh! So of course I know it's on Route 66, being a teenager of the 60s. I'm half an hour from the Olympic sailing. Glad I'm sorted before that circus starts.
