I did the auto set-up yesterday, and the only thing I saw that was weird was it said that my sub was 6ft. futher away than it actually is. But in the manual, in a side bar, it says that the sub reading might be off do to some kind of internal woofer delay or something like that. My question is, should I leave the setting the way it is (auto) or should I change the setting to the proper distance? And how?

THANKS!

Mine set it to 15.3 ft when it was actually 10ft. I just left it. It sounds fine to me, but if you want to change it go into the speaker setup menu to the delay time section and adjust the distance. The only thing I wish this had was a volume default. On my Harman Kardon I could set a volume in the menu and when I shut the receiver off and turned it back on it would default to the level I set. What do you think of the denon so far? I really like it.

Yeah I left mine the way it set up also.

So far I love the sound. I have Paradigm Mon. 7's, and music sounds incredible. I was using a Yamaha htr (lower end) model and I was just not happy the way it made the Paradigm's sound. Auto set-up is really cool and the remote seems to work all my other gear. So yeah! I'm really happy with it. :D How about you?

I really like it. I'm using some RC2 diy speakers from selahaudio. This replaced a Harman Kardon 210. The Denon sound more detailed to me. I also needed the video upconversion. Still playing with the eq. Trying to see how much it will help with the movies. So far I'm impressed, plenty of power for me.

How is the upconversion working for you? Is the quality of the video any different (better/same/worse) than a direct connection? I still haven't played around with it? Just want to know what you think.

It looks no different than running it direct, at least to my eyes. I have a dvd player and an xbox hooked to it. Makes is convenient for my projector. How high did the auto setup set your channel levels? Mine are all 10 or ll. Seems kinda high since 12 is the max. A few times it maxed them all out until I moved the mic. I did check with the radio shack meter and they were all balanced so I guess it doesn't matter.

I would have to check when I get home, but I don't think it's that high. I'll post it later.

My channel levels are all over the place.

FL @ 2.0dB
FR @ 2.0dB
CENTER @ 0.5dB
SUB @ -3.5dB
SL @ 5.5dB
SR @ 7.0dB

I don't know if this is good 'cause I always hear that the sub sould be a few dB's louder (correct me if I'm wrong) but it sounds pretty good to me.

I did check my levels with the rat shack meter and at 0db on the denon volume everything balanced to 85db on the meter. I thought reading thru the 3805 posts that it set levels at 75db but maybe not. Not a big deal I could always lower the levels myself.

I was woundering if you may know how to get DPLIIx to come on? I was watching an older movie last night but could not seem to set it to DPLIIx.

Renaming Inputs?

Can you rename the inputs? For example instead of it saying Video 1 you could rename it to Xbox or anything else?

I have the Yamaha 1400 and some features are bugging me. Like not being able to assign devices to one digital coax input.

BigFish, I'm only running a 5.1 setup so I haven't used the IIx, but check out page 69 in the manual.

Kyotech, No you can't rename inputs. I wish it had that.

Thanks I'll check out that page. I really don't like the manual, it doesn't explain things very well. So far that is the only thing that I'm not happy with.

I have one more question, can the on-screen menu pass through using the
"S" video or does it have to go through the component video?

It says the on-screen display signals are output with priority to the s-video monitor out jack. So if you have both the s-video and component going out to the monitor s-video will take priority. I'm using the component on mine. Something strange I found. When using the auto setup it has been setting all my channel levels at 85db when the volume is at 0. This resulted in all my channel levels being 10 or above. I went and lowered my subwoofer amp volume on the subwoofer and reran the setup and this time it set all my levels to 80db at 0 volume. So now my levels are around 5 and 6. Kinda strange. But it sounds good.

Ok, I'm confused about what the crossover should be set at.

My gear is as follows.

DENON 2805
PARADIGM MON. 7's-MAINS
PARADIGM CC370-CENTER
CINEMA SERIES-REARS (for now)
PDR-8 SUB (for now)

My question is, what should the crossover be set at for my sub and reciever?
Right now I set them both at 80Hz.
I don't know if this is correct or not, can someone please tell me what I need to do or change. Should set the volume on my sub before doing the auto set-up again? I'm just really confused as to what I need to set things at in order to get the best sound out of my system.

Oh! My mains and center channels are set to large by the auto set-up.
Thanks!
