Denon 2805 setup (bass control?)

I recently upgrade my system (new speakers and amp) and am having some difficulty configuring my receiver (or perhaps it is a speaker issue?).

Setup
Denon 2805
Inifity Alpha 50s Fronts
Infinity Alpha 37C Center
Infinity Primus 150 Rears
*no sub as of yet (avoiding the sub till I fix this problem)

There seems to be a definite lack of bass coming from the two front speakers - or at last relative to my expectations and my expereince with previous home audio equipment(bass is marginally louder than my z-680 logictec computer speakers sans sub).

Receiver settings:
Speaker
Fronts and Center Large
40hz crossover
Subwoofer mode: LFE+Main
Sub turned off

Any ideas?

Did you set speakers to large or small and no sub?

don't know the frequency response of the speakers but something tells me they are for mid and highs. i would look into that issue and then if I'm correct get a nice sub. either way a sub will give you as much bass as you ever go out of your old setup..

Make sure the settings are correct.

Speakers out of phase (neg & positive wires are reversed)?

Do you have "decent" bass output from the center channel?

I am not familiar with the speakers, but I would expect the bass to be a bit tight (in other words, not boomy, but a bit deeper and better controlled). What musical material are you familiar with? Are you hearing the bottom end of drums and string instruments, or does the bass sound compressed?

What speakers are you familiar with? How big/small is the room? Where are the speakers located?
