Denon 2805 and 2nd zone?

I have a Denon 2805 receiver and a 6.1 speaker system in my family room, and then speakers on the porch, balcony, game room, kitchen, master bath and master bedroom (6 places + the family room). All the wiring comes to my family room, including CAT5e in all those places.

My question is if I want the 6.1 speakers to be connected as my zone 1, can I connect the other 6 speaker sets as zone 2....or is that too much? I don't intend to use all the speakers at once....

You only have 7 amps in the 2805. You are using 6 for the surround so you only have one left to do distributed audio with. My suggestion would be to add at least a 2 channel amp to power the other zones using the line level outputs for zone 2. Dont forget to use impedence matching volume controls.

Since you have cat5 at the volume control locations you should look at some distributed audio systems that will give you more options and control. A couple that I sell are from Russound and Knoll.

The russound impedence matching controls will retail between $45 and $60 depending on how many you buy. Russound makes a 2 channel amp as do many others that will do fine for distributed audio. They will start around $200. You can also use a 2 channel receiver if you have an old one laying around.

The Russound and knoll distributed audio systems give you multiple source capabilities so you can access different things in different rooms and control them via remote. there are quite a few choices so look at their sites and find what fits your needs and I'll get a price for you.
