Has anyone compared these head to head? They are both going for $550 this weekend. Having trouble choosing one over the other.

Very comparable receivers. Both use the Audyssey MultEQ suite, both have great amp sections. I would go with the Denon as they typically run cooler, the 2310 has an ABT scaling chip, and Denon receivers are generally pretty bug free and reliable.

Are you buying from 6th Avenue? Where did you find both for $550?

I have a "name your own price" quote from 6th ave for the 2310 for $549.

newegg.com has a coupon (RECEIVER1712) on the SR707 for $550. Expires 10/18.

I'm torn. I tested the 2310CI at BB today. The overlay GUI is pretty nice. The 2310CI just seems a lil more elagant to me.

But, the preouts on the SR707 would be nice to have just in case. I have a NAD 2600A 2 channel 150wpc amp that I like to use for my mains (KEF 103/4s). Also, the SR707 did seem pretty hot just idling.

I think the Denon is a better receiver, but if that feature is important to you, then you have your answer. I personally feel (sometimes to the criticism of others) that Onkyo packs features into their receivers at the sacrifice of performance at times. They are giving you pre-outs, but what are they giving up to keep the price down? Its impossible to have your cake and eat it too unless you are willing to pay the money!!

I'm leaning towards the Denon. The pre-outs would be nice insurance, but they are not really required. I do agree that Onkyo seems a lil too focused at times on features. I'm looking for basic, reliable and refined.

This is a very poor way to judge decisions. Many times companies raise the price of items to trap people just like yourself. It's like when AMD just started selling CPUs. They were great chips at an even better price, but nobody was buying them. So they decided to raise the price closer to Intel's and all of a sudden they started to sell. Did the chips change? No, only the price to stop your avg consumer from saying something must be wrong with them to sell that low.

Another example closer on topic is with speakers. Bose are quite expensive for their market segment, but you'd be hard pressed to find somebody here to tell you it's b/c of their greater sound quality.

I definitely agree that some items in the world are way over priced. Generally speaking you get what you pay for, but there are a lot of gimmicks out there such as bose which charge you a lot for nothing. I am not calling Onkyo a gimmick by any means, they are a good company. Every company is gearing towards features for the money, but In my opinion what they lack in performance they put towards features. I prefer to shop for performance over excess features I don't use. Thats just my opinion on the situation after many years of listening to many different audio components

Both of these receivers are solid bets, either Denon or Onkyo would please me, as they did in the past.
