I would like to purchase a universal DVD player. The three I've come down to is the Denon 2200, Marantz 6400 and the Pionneer Elite 47A. The one that I would like to purchase would be the one that gives me excellent audio first and video second. Which one of these would give me excellent audio in all formats?

Any opinions on the Cambridge Audio 540D, DVD-A player. It seems to get excellent reviews for CD and DVD-Audio and excellent video as well.

Any opinions would be much appreciated.....

I purchased the Pioneer Elite 47Ai this past March and have been very happy with it. Opted for it over the Denon 2200. Great picture and audio. I thought the picture between the two were equivalent; liked the sound of the Pioneer over the Denon. I have no hesitation in recommending it. Some reviews have said the Pioneer has the chroma bug, but I have never noticed it. The only quibble I have is that layer changes aren't quite as smooth as I'd like. On many DVDs, there will be a very slight hesitation - maybe a second - at one point during the DVD, which I assume is the layer change. A minor annoyance at worst and not important enough to make me regret the purchase or warn someone away from it.

They're all probably very good, but I would personally opt for the Denon 2200, because that's the one I have at the moment :)

The video is great (no layer pausing or anything) and as far as i can tell, the Audio is excellent as well. I love to sit in my room for long periods of time and listen to DVD Audio etc. now.

I haven't had any experiance with the other models you mentions, so i'm probably commenting out of ignorance, but it seems that many other people like the 2200 also and its also had great reviews, especially for it's price/features/quality ratio, which is all it boils down to in the end anyway.

good luck

let us know what you end up choosing :)
