Hi,

I am new to this forum and am in the process of setting up a HT system, with about a 60/40 ratio of music and movies. I have chosen speakers and am trying to decide between Denon 2106 and 3805. My speaker are KEF XQ5s ..

The 2106 has a "official" bi-amping option which seems to be interesting. Any leads that would help me choose would be great.

Unless the 3805 has specific features that you need/want I don't think you will able to hear the difference between it and the 2106. OTOH the 3805 has greater toy factor that certainly can be sudective, at least to me it can. That being said I am very happy with the sound from my four year old Onkyo 595 driving Paradigm Studio 20s and have resisted the upgrade urge.

Denon options

With the additional power and headroom of the 3805, you wont need to use the bi-amp option to deliver similar power to your speakers. If the prices are comparable, go for the 3805 which has a beefier power supply, better amplifier, and more features. Since the 2106 is a brand new model, you are probably paying close to retail, vs. a significant discount on last years 3805.
