I have recently taken on the fun task of setting up a 7.1 system for a new room I am building in my basement and went to my local electronics store with printouts of listings (to include prices/specs/reviews) of equipment I found to be appealing for my budget/quality needs. I found these by visiting various forum and discount sites on then net. They came very close to matching the prices I found on the net so I decided to go with them. It was kind of a no-brainer as they offer excellent support for the products to include the addition of an extended warranty... $12.50/pair on the speakers gets me 10 years of repairs or replacement, even if they blow up from me accidentally abusing them. and the same on the receiver at 5 years for $34.00
but, anyway...
The equipment I chose ended up being a combination of Klipsch reference series speakers (r(x)-35) and a Denon 2803 receiver, although I had gone in wanting a 2805. The salesperson told me the quality of the sound coming from the 2805 is reduced compared to the 2803 as Denon has "cheapend" up the electronic guts dealing with the audio output so they could add more features for the same price. Thus, making it more appealing to the average consumer. My question is, to the gurus of this forum with knowledge on this subject, is this guy handing me a load of crap so he can sell his old model stock or is there some validity to this claim? I have gone to Denons site and viewed the information sheets on both and can only see from the comparison that the new model would be an improvement, but if there was some truth to this if they would make it evident in their sales literature. I guess I would need some inside info from people who service these or know enough about the electronics in these units.
Any comments on this are greatly appreciated.
I will be right back there tomorrow making an exchange if I find I have been mislead.
Thank you
