Hi - bought Denon 1940ci for $93 which includes shipping, primarily with the notion of listening to good AUDIO as this player provides both DVD-A and SACD compatibility. However, I'm now not very sure whether I did the right thing. I've never listened to either SACD or DVD-A but hearing/reading it's amazing. At the same time, I'm also reading Blu-ray will cause all of this to go obsolete and the way to go is to buy an universal player like Oppo (but which is currently beyond my budget). Additionally, like Denon there will be soon a slew of manufacturers providing universal players and as such why buy only SACD/DVD-A? My thought process however is SACD/DVD-A has an ample collection whose price will only fall, not rise for the next 5 yrs. In this window, SACD/DVD-A players are a bargain and can be bought. During this window, blu-ray players, discs will slowly start entering mainstream and thus finally lower the price sufficiently to make it very attractive. Any comments on this?
Also, I have 2 other technical questions regarding my purchase. (a) I have Onkyo 606 and from Denon 1940ci do I must have 5 channel analog or can I use the HDMI cable? (Would like the player to do the decoding as I think it's DACs are better than Onkyo) (b) Onkyo, on the other hand has lossless decoding which I'm not sure if 1940ci has. Can someone comment on this?
