Denon 1910 and surround modes

So I am working on setting up my new Denon 1910 with emp impression fronts , emp center, a sony sub and random surround speakers.

I have not yet run the Audyssey but my question is this.

How do you know which surround mode to use and/or how to set it? IE, my bluray should obviously use whatever is best , and the hd cable box I would hope also uses whatever is best. (What mode should be listed on the receiver?)

Even looking through batpigs set up guide, I haven't seen specifics for setting surround modes so you dont have to manually make changes.

Make sure you select the right codec on the disc itself.

Make sure it's set for DD/5.1. That said, don't get your expectations too high. Best surround effect on TV imo is drunkard yelling at baseball umps.

This is post-processing at this point. If you have a 5.1 signal, and 5.1 setup, you won't need any such postprocessing. If you have rear speakers, you may choose something like PLIIX or Neo6, etc, to matrix for rears, or to matrix a 2ch source for 5.1/7.1.

Many receivers allow you to set a default to the source input I believe. Read the manual. Good luck.
