Denon 1909 vs Pioneer SC05 question

I got a question and by no means "buyers remorse"...I set up the 1909 last week, and love it for the $$$ great great receiver...However, few weeks ago I was in Best Buy, and was watching and listening to Transformers.....impressed the wife, she said was like in a movie theater...the sound was incredible found out it was a Pioneer Elite 05. That is what pushed her over to my side upgrading to the 1909. Now it's a great receiver BUT, got Transformers last nite blu ray like Best Buy and played the same scene and altho it was fantastic not quite there like the 05 was in Best Buy. The 05 just seems richer more dynamic. Now the question is ... is it that much better (it is more scratch than the 1909) or is there some tweaking I need to do to the 1909? I did the auydssey set up last week when I got it. And I have very good speakers.

Do you have the same speakers and the same room BB had as you watched the movie? If not, then there is no way to compare. AVRs that are set the same, calibrated the same and are in the same set up should sound the same.

Dang, I said "same" a lot.

And here I am tryin to help this economy waiting for someone to tell me to take the denon back and buy the more expensive Pioneer lol.
You're right, I thought of that after I posted, who knows what speakers etc.

Well, considering the economy and the fact that you are an Audioholic, you should take the AVR back and upgrade to the SC 05 or the 3808.:D

In my opinion, the speakers will play the biggest part in the sound quality you will be getting out of the experience.

The only way to really compare the receivers, would be to use the same speakers, in the same room, with the same bluray player, with the receivers tweeked relativly the same. If you were in a different room, with different speakers.. then the comparrison is moot.

To sum it up, you just had your taste of IcePower Amps. The new Pio Elites are very clear and dynamic. Take a look at the thread below and you will see exactly what I mean. Seems we have both shared the same experience, I even noticed it compared to the higher Denon models. I suggest you take it back and go for the 05. You wont regret it at all.

^ Demo the two for yourself and you may end up selling your 3808.

I did demo both of them you goof-ball....
That time of the month I see. No need to be sensitive over the subject. Anyway to the OP definitely worth a look and comparing the two side by side if possible.

Both the SC-05 and 3808 would have enough power for most speaker configurations (headroom as well) in all but the largest of rooms. Each should also be very linear under their normal operating conditions. The SC-05 is a very sexy looking receiver though, it would definitely be my choice if it where the 3808 and SC-05 where on my plate.

What speakers and subwoofer do you have bklyn1028? Make sure you have all speakers set to small and that the AVR's x-over is set around 80-100hz. Let the subwoofer take care of the low end. If you are losing dynamics on the low end it may be due to subwoofer placement, or maybe you just need a bigger subwoofer (or two:D). If you are losing dynamic performance with the rest of your speakers make sure you have any dynamic compression functions disabled on the AVR. Unless the speakers you have are very demanding of power, or the room is too large for the speakers and receiver, you should have more than enough power from the 1909.

I hope this helps.

Yep, the new Elites look great and have great amps.

I don't use the power and I wanted the best GUI and the ability to overlay 1080p via HDMI so the Denon won out.

The new pioneer GUI is sweet, they just didnt extend it through the entire line:confused:

I heard that it won't overlay 1080p via HDMI so I never picked up the one I ordered. If a guy wanted a really good AVR, he could buy a bare bones, basic AVR that has the features needed and then stick a Behringer EP2500 on it and be done:D

First off, let me say I am sorry for giving you are hard time. I have the utmost respect for you guys who protect our freedom and let guys like me, set back and enjoy life without much worry.

I think ICE makes some good power but power is power in my book and I don't use the power in the AVR to run my system so it just isn't a big selling point to me.
Nope not crying bro, Marines dont cry. But agreed, Seth is right. And of course you gotta love the ICE.
