My dad is looking for a new receiver. He's got a pair of Klipsch Quartets hooked up to his current(past) receiver that just died. I'm leaning towards strongly recommending the Yamaha 5950.

The biggest reason for leanig toward the Yamaha is that it has video upconversion and states it can run A+B speakers at the same time. Any opinions to the contrary?

The budget is between $200 and $300. I found the 5950 for $275 incl. shipping and the 1506 for $220, incl. shipping.

Thanks.

Receivers

I would recommend the Yamaha HTR-5960, read the recent AH review. You should be able to find it online from authorized dealers for just over $300. I have last years model, the 5860, which you can find for <$300.

Keep in mind that most receivers are not desinged to run the A AND B speakers at the same time. Doing so can cause the receiver to overheat and shutdown. However, the surround and surround back channels are avaliable for a couple extra pairs of speakers.
