Delay to soundbar...

Greetings to all!

I posted a week ago about a sound bar and sound base I received as gifts. I already have a surround sound system, but didn't want them to go to waste, so I connected them with an optical cable splitter.

Everything was working fine until a few days ago, as I noticed a delay in the sound bar's audio. The surround sound and sound base are in sync, and the sound bar seemed to be in sync, until I noticed a slight delay during dialogue...

The sound bar has a sync option to delay audio from 0-100ms. Things sound fine within the 0-40ms range, but it's only for a few minutes, then it goes out-of-sync again. The only temporary fix I've been applying is to set the sync to any number between 0-40ms, let it last as long as it can, then set it again.

It's getting a bit irritating to constantly have to change the sync delay. I have a feeling it doesn't need delay, as my sound base does not have the sync option and is working fine with the surround sound.

The sound bar is a Philips 2.1 w/ wireless subwoofer, model : HTL3110B/F7B

On a somewhat related topic, would it make a difference if I connected my audio input, a PlayStation 4, to the TV? I think I can have the PlayStation use HDMI to the TV, and then connect the splitter with all audio outputs to the TV's optical output. I've read that this may cause a degrade in sound quality, however, which is why I opted to connect directly to the PlayStation.

I can't find any information online, at least through my own searches. I should mention that I noticed there was a 'refurbished' sticker on the sound bar when I opened the box, but besides the small annoying delay, everything is working fine.

Burn it with fire! I myself would sell that thing and save yourself from trouble, specially when you already have surround system. Or perhaps use it for some other application? I myself don't see any point using it with surround system.

You're right about it being useless with the surround sound, it does provide a nice boost for "hard-to-hear" sounds, as dumb as it maybe lol

I guess it is defective, I'll have to contact the person who gifted it to me and find out where they got it from...

Philips sold the name for the US to Funnai corporation. Philips have not had anything to do with any equipment sold in the US under that brand for ages now. It is all the worst junk and none of it any good at all.

Forget that unit and anything sold under that brand in the US. Philips threw the US market under the bus a long time ago.
