...Really manufacturers don't help themselves with ridiculous "puffs" like that. People are not that stupid as a rule, though some are. The careful ask here. With that info, I and others can not steer a customer to them, like we can and do to SVS and Rhythmic for instance. They have useful reliable data on their products.

I had one of those before a power surge took it out. Awesome subwoofer for it's size, It dug pretty deep, easily mid 20s and had great slam. We got the AS-P4000 as a replacement and it's not nearly as good. Plays decently deep and is loud but it's really boomy. The volume knob is messed up as well, move it a millimeter and it starts bottoming out.

Yeah, I remember reading your writeups on the subwoofers. If I recall, the AS-P4000 had 2 ports and Athena decided to add another model that had a 12" woofer. If perhaps rather than redesigning the whole subwoofer line they had continued to produce the models they originally released and used their R&D funds to develop a 12" model of the same design concept and really put a great effort into it to make it the flagship of the line they would have had better luck. At the time I thought the AS-P400 looked fantastic with the grill on and off. The slim design and overall aesthetics where exceptional for the price.

Ya, he mentioned both Rhythmik and SVS by name, but there could be something else lurking out there...
